Hello, my name is Vivian Zhang. I am a composer, sound designer, and socially-engaged art practitioner based in Shanghai, London, and Barcelona.

Ocean Full of Bowling Balls is a personal sound project I have been conceiving for a long time. Its title is taken from one of my favourite writers, J.D. Salinger, and his unpublished short story of the same name.

For me, sound is a medium that is free and fluid. It can coexist with other media, yet it can also detach itself from complex environments and exist independently.

Through this project, I hope to tell stories of drifting, nostalgia, diaspora, and reunion—through sound, and beyond sound—in ways that are at once gentle and radical, political and non-political.

「充满保龄球的海洋」是我从很久以前就开始构思的个人声音项目，取自我最喜欢的作家塞林格的一篇未公开同名短篇。

对我来说，声音是一种非常自由且流动的媒介。它既可以与其他媒介共生，也可以从复杂的环境中脱离，独自存在。

我希望通过这个项目来讲述漂流、乡愁、聚散和离合。

借由声音，也超越声音。

温和与激进，政治或非政治，并不互相矛盾。
