NOWhere
“You are here,” insist the arrows on maps and guides. How many of us really are?”
— Lucy Lippard (1997) The Lure of the Local: Senses of Place in a Multicultural Society
This quotation was the starting point we were given three weeks ago, tasked with using this teaching space and only what we could find around Guildhall to convey our collective and individual journeys to the physical, imaginary, and emotional present.
So, where are you?
The process of building and rebuilding our identity in new environments is shaped by what we decide to bring with us and What we leave behind. Our paths are marked by adaptation, reinvention, and a continuous negotiation between the familiar and the unknown. “NOWhere” blurs the line between the reality, history, and imagination of our personal odysseys.
At its core, this installation is a meditation on the universality of these journeys. Despite the diversity of our backgrounds, we all share the experience of rebuilding who we are, again, again and again.
Where are you really?
